Our good friends Jordan and Janet Evans and their children were in town and wanted to know if we could meet them on the coast Saturday June 30th for some beach fun and hiking.
Darryl and I left early so we could tour the new building at the Tillamook Creamery Cheese Factory in Tillamook, Oregon.
The new factory had it's grand opening 10 days ago!
Below is the room where the cheese is made and then the curd is packaged to go to the refrigerated aging warehouse.
The red contraption vaccuum seals the packaged before boxing.
After months, and sometimes years, the boxes of cheese are brought to this cutting and packaging room. The cheese here is medium cheddar. The 20 pound blocks are cut into four 5 lb. blocks.
Each block is weighed and trimmed. All the trimmings go into tubs that are used for shredded cheese.
These blocks are packaged and ready to sell. They do all sizes of cheese from single serving to the big 5 lb. blocks. They also sell butter, ice cream and much more.
The Evan's family met up with us. I talked the boys into posing in the road trip van for me.
We headed north out of Tillamook and stopped at Rock-a-way Beach for some play time. It was low tide which made for a nice beach walk.
And it gave us a good opportunity to take some family pictures.
Although I'm not a very good photographer, as I had them all squinting at the sun. Oops.
Maybe this is better.
My sweetie and I enjoying the beach and the view!
The next stop was Oswald West State Park where we hiked through the rain forest to the beach.
Their oldest son has fun rock hopping in the creek.
We sure do love this family!
We had fun exploring Oswald State Beach Park at Smugglers Cove.
I wrote a love letter in the sand to Darryl. In two weeks we will celebrate our 42nd wedding anniversary.
Jordan is King of the log!
His kids like to play on the log too.
We left smugglers cove and headed north to Cannon Beach.
After a delicious lunch at Mo's Seafood Restaurant (I can highly reccomend all the food, but their Clam Chowder was exceptional!), we hiked the beach to Haystack Rock.
Darryl decided he wanted to keep his feet warm and dry.... He said his feet were cold enough.
Miss J and I posing with Haystack Rock in the distance.
I love this picture of Little Miss J. Bug. She had such a wonderful time playing in the water and the sand.
Sisters!
Just a note. .. I used up the last of the blueberries we picked last Saturday to make this delicious pie.
Come on over sometime and I'll fix one for you!

Beautiful pictures. Love that area of the country. Love sampling all the cheeses after the tour at the cheese factory. I assume they still do that. We too have hiked out to that haystack rock. All the driftwood along the shore line. Looks like a great place for a get together. Thanks for sharing.
