Shakespear's Globe Theater

Friday February 15, 2019
2:30 PM
We walked across the Millennium Bridge and headed straight for this beautiful reproduction of
Shakespeare's Globe Theater

I went on a tour which was both educational and entertaining.

The original Globe Theater was built in 1599 and was destroyed by fire in 1613.

Several different tour groups were in the theater at the same time. High School Students from Italy are on the stage.

The theater is a lot bigger than I imagined it would be.

It would be to watch one of Shakespeare's plays on this stage. They stage several of them through the summer months.

The rebuilding of the new Globe Theater was the brainchild of an American Actor, Sam Wanamaker.
You can read more about the history of the Globe Theater here.

See, I really was here.

You have to be close to see the painting on the ceiling of the "Porch" or stage roof.

Below is a list of many of the quotes we use today that are attributed to William Shakespeare.

It was almost 4:00 PM when we left the globe, and we still had one stop to make. We took off walking again....

Got on the Tube (subway) and headed to Portobello Road.

We still had to walk a bit to get there, but the neighborhood was nice.

The vendors, stalls and stores we starting to close up as we arrived, but it didn't deter us too much.

For flea market and garage sale folk, Portobello road is a treasure trove of trinkets...

We looked through several shops and decided we would need to come back Saturday morning.

Because there was just too much to see.

I can't hear the name "Portobello Road" without hearing the song of the same name in my head. It's from the Disney Movie "Bedknobs and Broomsticks" starring Angela Landsbury and David Tomlinson.

Yes, it's the famous bookshop from the movie Notting Hill. I didn't realize that it was on Portobello Rd.

Portobello Road, Portobello Road
Street where the riches of ages are stowed.
Anything and everything a chap can unload
Is sold off the barrow in Portobello road.
You'll find what you want in the Portobello road.

We'll see if that holds true tomorrow, for now, it's a couple of miles walk home.
FYI -25,164 steps today. 10.61 Miles walked.
