The tunnels weren't ready for us on this morning, so Darryl and went on a little 'Antiquing' trip to York, Beverley and Hull. We bought a couple of books and these two awesome clocks.
On Tuesday they still hadn't washed the tunnel and we again found ourselves with a day off. We decided to take a drive through the Yorkshire Dales (pronounced Dells) and on to the Lake District in Cumbria.
Actually, we were quite surprised to find these huge "Golf Balls" as we started our drive. Don't know what they are, but it was an unusual sight.

Now this is the lovely English countryside we were wanting to see. All the fields are fenced off with hedgerows or stone walls.
The beautiful Dales are rolling hills and small mountains.
(I only call them small because I've seen the Rockies and the Andies).
Below you can see a good example of the stone walls.
Oh... and sheep. We saw a few horses and a couple cows, but we saw loads of sheep.
This would be the proverbial "Church in the Dale".
I don't know what this ruin was, but it was amazing to see. Darryl took this picture out of his car window.
The wire fence keeping these sheep off the road is the only wire fencing we saw all day!
We had periods of sun and clouds, it did make for a beautiful drive.
We noticed the farther north we went the buildings were made out of stone rather than the brick we see in Selby and York.
We drove through, Wetherby, Harrogate, Ingleton, where we found a couple of nice antiques, through Kendal and on to The lake country of Windermere,
..and the tourist village of Windermere..
Where we found a great surprise.

I will tell you more about that in my next post, it was truly delightful!
