Finals and Family - Life's a Beach!

May 2020

Last fall Skye went back to Southern Virginia University to finish her final year of school. In the fall semester he took 19 credits and starting in January she took 21 credits to finish her degree. She knew it would be a tough row to hoe, but little did she realize what was coming in April. The Schools were closed. All of them (except maybe in South Dakota. They know how to do things right there.) This meant Skye's older girls were out of school and distance learning from home with mom as their teacher, Skye was doing all of her school work from home and the babysitter could no longer watch Avery. The last days of school were coming up and the first weeks of May meant Finals would start. How in the word could she get it all done?

📚📙📚📘

She took the girls to Ryan's parents and stayed there for Easter and a couple of weeks, but soon it proved too much. It's interesting to me how the promptings of the Holy Spirit works. I was feeling impressed to call Skye and see if she wanted to bring the girls down to Mississippi so I could watch them while she studied in the empty apartment we had for our crew. As I was thinking about this she called and I told her I wanted her to come down and she said, "I was just going to ask you that".

Mississippi opened up their beaches the first of May for small groups if you practiced ''Social Distancing" (Keeping 6' apart)

Skye and the girls arrived about 1:30 in the morning. I was so excited to see them. I put them to bed and after we had Home Church on Sunday we drove over to Ocean Springs to show Skye around and stopped at the beach so the girls could run a little.

And run and enjoy the sand is what they did! Annabelle found some shells, Avery wandered and Reagan shows her shell treasures.

Annabelle shows her skill at wave jumping and not getting wet!

It was hard for them to stay dry but they did a pretty good job. I promised them that I would bring them back to the beach the next day so they could play and swim in the water!

BEACH DAY!

It is very shallow here and a great place to bring the little girls. Oh what a fun day we had.

I almost felt guilty enjoying the sun, sand and sea with the girls while Darryl was hard at work and Skye was stuck with her nose in the books... so to speak.

But I didn't. This is what I have spent the last 20 years training for.

Being a "Cool" Grandma!

More adventures to come!

FYI - May 4, 2020. The 46th anniversary of the day I was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The best decision I've ever made.

Easter Weekend, a Special Anniversary and Travel Time for Grandma Cindy

Easter Sunday April 12, 2020

With this Coronavirus Pandemic the Governments - Federal, State and Local, have made mandates and restrictions, that have limited our liberties. I understand they don't know much about this virus and it is very scary and seems to be quite dangerous to the Elderly and those with underlying health issues, and they have ordered almost all businesses closed unless they are deemed 'essential' by a governor or city council, and tell everyone, sick, healthy, young or old to stay home and self quarantine for 14 days. It soon turned into a month and for some states, months and months.

The different state's lists of "essential businesses' didn't make any sense. Liquor stores and Marijuana shops were essentials but all churches were closed and threatened with fines if they held services. Beauty shops, Barber shops and gyms were forced to close but tattoo parlors could remain open. The big box stores like Walmart, Target and Home Depot could open along with grocery stores, but small 'Mom and Pop' stores were forced to close. Parks, playgrounds and beaches were closed along with pools, when what children needed most was sunshine and play. It made no sense and seemed that the political powers that be were trying to make the population miserable and afraid for our lives.

Political Pundits were screaming for President Trump to force nation wide closings and mandates the people, like no church, no school, no elective surgeries or wearing masks. The President was smart enough not to do this. That would have made him a dictator. He rightly explained that we are a Federal Republic and that each Governor was responsible for making decisions for their own states. What works in New York won't be needed in a state like Wyoming or South Dakota.

👷👷👷

Darryl and I were issued documents from Enviva and Dome Technology as "Essential Workers" that would allow us to travel on the roads in case we were stopped by authorities. Fortunately, no one in Pascagoula seemed to worry about people driving around and going to the store, etc.

I, for one, didn't have any qualms about traveling or going out in public, so when the time came for Gideon and Parker to go home I had no problem going with the and extending my travel plans to go to Utah to see Hillary, Cody and their families.

✈✈✈✈

I spent Easter Sunday with the newlyweds and the kids.

On Monday April 13, 2020
I caught another nearly empty flight up to Salt Lake City to meet my newest grandson,
Samuel Matthias Cunningham who was born on Feb. 29th.
Which means I also spent time with Sam's siblings and cousins,
Rachel and Ross, Gabriel, Jethro and Ezra.

April 13th is a very special anniversary for our family. It was the 4th Anniversary of J.J's (Jethro's) drowning accident and the day when so many first responders and medical personal were the instruments God used to save his life. Every April 13th for the last 3 years J.J. takes goodies to the Riverton Fire Station, the Police Station and to Children's Primary Hospital to thank the people who saved his life and give them hugs. Due to the pandemic he wasn't able to do that this year, but we made a sign and took his photo and sent it to them. We received some very nice notes from them.

And I did get to play with this sweet little boy!!! He is a real "Rolly Poly", Daddy's little Fatty!

But so sweet and snugly.

As I write and post this blog (today is August 17th) he is 4 months older, 4 months bigger and sitting up on his own.

And I have to tell you about Sweet Rachel's hair. She has discovered 'sock curls' and grandma was thrilled when she asked me if I could curl her hair. This was the result the next morning.

Lot's of curl that lasted most of the day!

By the time I flew back to Mississippi on the 16th a few people had started to travel again. The planes were about 1/2 full and I noticed there were more people on the roadways. They still hadn't opened the nation up and I see many, many people suffering financially as their businesses sit empty and closed, and emotionally as they struggle with being lonely and not able to visit family and friends. There are horrible stories of people who go into the hospital very ill and dying alone because they won't let family in to see them. They are even stopping people from having funerals. This is too much Government over-reach and it is having a devastating effect on our society.

In May they started implementing mask mandates and more "lock downs" and people have started to protest and argue against many of these regulations. I do believe what some of the governors have been doing is unconstitutional. We shall see....

A Good Friday to Marry

Cali called me the last week in March to tell me she and Alan were going to get married. If the world was going to be going crazy they might as well join in. She asked me not to tell the children as she felt she needed to do that in person. So when we got them home on Thursday Alan had a delicious Italian Dinner all ready for us and Cali told them the news. Parker was very excited. Gideon said "Cool. I'm good with that."

💖💐

And so Friday as Cali and Parker primped and painted nails, I decided to try to put together a small wedding celebration.  Cali had ordered flowers earlier in the week and even bought some pretty plates and napkins. Due to the virus many smaller stores and bakeries were closed. I went to the grocery store and found a cake. Cali said pink would work.

Picked up the bouquets and boutineers and for a few dollars more they gave me some loose flowers and greenery to decorate the cake with.

By 1:30 our very small wedding party was ready to get Cali to the church on time.

She looked radiant! She was so happy she was glowing.

There is a fun story about this dress. She bought it in 2018 after a frustrating and sad event in her life. It was her "I am happy with me" gift to herself. She had only been dating Alan for a short time. I was there when the dress arrived and when she modeled it for me I said, "Oh Cali, that will be perfect for your wedding"! She was a little shocked that I would say that, then she took a good look at herself and said, "I know. Right?"

I happen to know that from that time on, every time she went to visit Alan she took the dress with her 'just in case'. 😉

Due to the Arizona government restrictions of no more than 10 people at a gathering our wedding party was small. Only 8 people including Cali's Bishop who officiated at the ceremony.

The Bride and Groom, Cali and Alan, JaNae Clegg, Cali's dear friend, running buddy, bridesmaid and photographer, Parker and Gideon, of course, Alan's good friend Charles (the best man) and me.

Gideon took a video of the ceremony and I sent a video out on Marco Polo, which is how Cali's sisters and Cody found out she was getting married.

Mr. And Mrs. Alan Rasmussen and family.

Our little reception. It was delightful.

Beautiful JaNea and the bouquet.

I am so proud of my beautiful daughter. She makes me happy.

So this is what I did to the cake to dress it up a little. Not bad for 20 minutes of decorating.

And yes, we did the tradition share the wedding cake and bubbly.

Sometimes you just have to be serious, like when your wife has the knife.

We had a fun time, a little dancing for the happy couple, congratulations all around, hugs and kisses and making some great memories.

It was truly a Good Friday for Mr. and Mrs. Rasmussen.

💖Love you two!💖
