I have to tell you, I was very excited to hear we were coming to Oregon for this job. Although I have lived next door in Idaho for 20 years I have never ventured further west in all that time. Until a month ago I had never been in the state of Oregon. What a beautiful place this is! No wonder so many pioneers risked everything to come here!

On a beautiful Friday afternoon we decided to take a drive to the coast as we had heard of how beautiful it is there. We were not disappointed.
We drove over to Tillamook (yes, the cheese place) and around Tillamook Bay to Garibaldi, a quaint little fishing village. We saw several cars at this food truck, and since it was well past lunch time we decided to give it a go.
Fresh fish and chips, and they were delicious!
From there we drove up to Rockaway Beach. A beautiful spot and quite the popular resort area in the summer.
The Pacific Ocean on one side and dunes and mountains on the other.
It was very windy so there was a fine mist blowing off the ocean.
A small memorial by a little church.
As we headed north towards Astoria the views became spectacular as we looked down from the side of the mountains to the sometimes rocky shores or long stretches of beach on the blue Pacific Ocean.
When we reached Astoria we drove across the huge causeway bridge to Washington State.
It's not as tall as the big bridge in Tampa, FL....
But it is one of the steepest bridges I have ever been on. Here we are going down the north side.

Looking back at Astoria, Oregon.
We didn't stay in Washington but turned around and headed back south on the 101. As we were driving through the coastal town of Gearhart By the Sea we were surprised by this sight on a residential street.
Darryl turned the truck around and drove back to it to make sure we were seeing it correctly.
A herd of wild elk nibbling the shrubs in the yards of the neighborhood houses.
Oh the things you see when you leave home!
Our last stop was in the pretty town of Seaside, Oregon
at the Lewis and Clark
End of the Trail Monument . It faces the Ocean and is a popular spot to watch the sunset.
It is a beautiful spot with many fun shops to look through and some fabulous looking restaurants to satisfy any type of appetite.
We ate a delicious seafood dinner, bought some candy and fudge, and as the sun set we headed home to Hillsboro.
It was such a lovely day!
