What Is A Light Station? And a Day With Preston

So Grandma Peggy and I left Florida Saturday morning and headed North spending the night in Kingsland, GA. After church Sunday Morning we took a drive to St. Simon's Island, GA to see the Light Station. (That is the new politically correct term for Lighthouse). The Lighthouse was closed so we took a quick look around the very picturesque town and then drove toward Savannah. The St. Simon's Light Station.

I guess it is a station because it includes the 1, 2, or 3 lightkeepers houses and other buildings on the property.

Since we couldn't go up the first lighthouse we went to visit the Tybee Island Light Station. This one was open and we had a great visit. 3 Lightkeepers houses, a summer kitchen and the lighthouse and museum. This is Georgia's tallest and I believe Oldest lighthouse. It is 178 ft. tall and has 153 steps to the top.

Grandma and I climbed all of them. (And she is 83 years young.)

On the way up the steps I stayed behind mom just to make sure she made it up okay. On the way down I got in front of her. "Are you there to catch me if I fall?" she asked. Well, I couldn't lie to her so I had to tell her the truth. "Nope, I am in front so if my hip goes out I don't fall into you and knock you down the stairs." She thought that was pretty funny.

We arrive at Shiloh and Jason's around 7:30 Sunday evening and left at 9:00 this morning for home. We took Preston with us to keep me company on the way back. I got grandma home to Mocksville at 1:15, we had some lunch, I packed the truck up and then Preston and I headed back down to South Carolina. We did make a couple of stops along the way. First at Uncle Jim's office where Preston got to pet Phil, the miniature Horse. Then we went to visit Aunt Cindy and Will and he held their Pet Chinchillas. He also saw them take a bath. Do you know how a chinchilla takes a bath?

It was a fun day with Preston. Since he slept most of the way back to Columbia he is wide awake now at 11:00 at night. Well, that's his mom's problem.

Beach Day!!

My trip to Florida would not be complete without a day at the beach! We went to a private beach just north of Deerfield Beach. Cami and Lily were the prettiest girls at the beach. Grandma Peggy and her friend collected shells, and I had fun in the water. Although the Floridians thought the water was chilly, I thought it felt great!

We are back in Kingsland, GA and tomorrow will be at Shiloh and Jason's to spend the night and then home to Mocksville on Monday. It has been a wonderful vacation. I can't wait until the next one!

Carolyn, Lily and Sammy

On Thursday we drove over to Bradenton, FL. to visit Grandma's cousin Carolyn. Carolyn has a little Yorkie dog named Sammy. Well, we found out that Lily loves doggies. And she wasn't afraid to give Sammy kisses! This little girl needs a puppy!

Our Day at the Everglades

Today Grandma Peggy, Cami, Lily and I went to the Everglades National Park. Wow!! How beautiful and peaceful it was, and we saw so much wildlife! But before we could go on the trails we had a picnic lunch in Grandma's van. We learned that Lily loved the chicken bones!
