Relaxing Hawaii

ALOHA!!!!!
I had a lot of fun Last week relaxing and playing in Hawaii. On Saturday the 19th Skye took me to Turtle Bay to see the resort. It was very lovely and relaxing. I can see why people want to stay there.
The Lobby Flower arrangement was bigger than Skye.
The Macaws in the Lobby were a nice colorful touch..

This guy slept the whole time we were there.
That evening the men of the church had an Iron Chef Competition. The Elders vs. the High Priests and the Priests Quorum. The secret ingredient was BACON!
Ryan is pitting a date which will be stuffed with chorizo (sausage), wrapped in bacon and baked then served with a sauce. It was delicious. We were treated to Bacon wrapped Chestnuts, meatloaf, chicken. Bacon Stuffed Chicken, Bacon and Potatoes, ....
Bishop Logan made a fabulous shrimp and Bacon Chowder...
Bacon Cheeseburgers, Salad, etc. Even Chocolate Covered Bacon and Brown Butter Bacon Ice Cream which was absolutely delicious!
It was a wonderful activity, which the Elder's Quorum won and everyone left with their Palates perfectly satisfied!
Wednesday Skye and I took the bus to Hale'iwa in search of some Shave Ice and snorkeling,
We agree that the best Shave ice on the North Shore isn't the one made famous by the TV food shows, but the one at Tropical Rush.
Pinacolada shave ice with ice cream in the bottom of the cup and sweetened condensed milk on top!
Yummy!!
If you ever come to Haleiwa you can't miss their store, it's right on the North Shore Drive,
in the Tropical Rush Building!
When Lunch time rolled around we went to Pizza Bob's and shared a delicious Kalua Pork Sandwich.
We stopped at Turtle Bay on the way home to meet up with Ryan. He took us on a private tour of the grounds and some of the secluded beaches where they film episodes of some of your favorite shows.

On Friday we visited the Dole Plantation. Ryan and Skye have lived here for over a a year and have never been there. Of course we had to feed the coi in the pond.
Skye shows off her muscles needed for picking pineapple?
These pictures are especially for Jacob and Cami , Jason and Shiloh.
We looked all over but couldn't find a mole or a vertically challenged Conductor.
The Dole Whip Pineapple Float was delicious though...
It was all good until we say this. Ryan dipping his Fries in the Pineapple whip.
Friday night we went to the BYU-Hawaii production of Oklahoma. It was a fun production and Skye had a lot of fun being a "Chorus Girl".

Yesterday Skye and I sang in church. She was getting sick and by this morning she and Ryan were both coming down with colds and upset stomachs. Guess I will play nurse a little bit today.
*****
We are headed to the other side of the Island for a couple of days. I will take some good sunset pictures and post them for you. Take care and stay warm.

The Hawaiian Adventure Begins

Tuesday the 15th I Hillary took me to the Salt Lake Airport where I caught the first of my 3 flights on my way to Hawaii. The first two flights were gratefully normal and uneventful. The third flight ended up like this.
The plane left L.A. at 5:00 pm and headed out over the Pacific. After an hour we started banking to the left and the Captain came on to tell us they were having problems with one of the hydrolics systems and we would need to turn back to L.A.
As we arrived (around 7:30 pm) the runway was lined with emergency vehicles with their lights on. We pulled up to the gate and as the engines stopped their was a very strong smell of diesel fuel and just then the fire trucks rolled up on either side of the plane.
The flight was cancelled and I was put up in a very nice hotel and rebooked to fly out at 8:45 the next morning. My flight, however, took me to Maui before catching an Island shuttle to Honolulu. 32 hours after starting on my adventure Skye and Ryan picked me up at the airport and my vacation got started for real. Although it was a little inconvenient for me I was cool and relaxed with the whole thing. I still have 21 days of paradise ahead. I made friends with some of the passengers. Sashi and her husband, from India, who were on their honeymoon, missed one of their nights at the Wiakiki Hilton. One young woman missed a very important test in Honolulu, which was the reason for her visit. And one family was very grateful that they decided to fly into Hawaii 2 days before their daughters wedding.
Skye and Ryan's cute litte apartment is a one room affair. I am standing at the back of the apartment in the doorway of the bathroom. My two bags are taking up a lot of space for them but they don't seem to mind. Every night they put a very comfortable ( I mean that seriously) cot up for me in the kitchen. They have to climb over me if they need to use the potty in the middle of the night. :-) It's all good. We're in Paradise!
They live a block from the beach and we have enjoyed the waves and the sand every day.

*****
This morning I ventured out at 6:30 to get some pictures of the sunrise. Skye was sitting at the computer with a Jacket on because she was cold. It was 72 degrees. :-)
The moon was high in the sky to the west as I neared the eastern shoreline.
I arrived about 20 minutes early and was quite the curiosity for these little "ghost" crabs.

Another beautiful day begins in paradise.
I will post more pictures in a day or two.
Mahalo and Aloha!

An Old 4-H Project

Today while cleaning out the spare room we ran across Cami’s Veterinary Science 4-H Project from 1995. She was the Grand Champion for Clay County and received a 3rd place at The State Fair.

100_7091 100_7092 100_7093 On the poster we found pictures of Cleo the Cat and one of my dad doing an exam on a little puppy in his office.                               100_7094 100_7095 100_7096 100_7097 100_7098 100_7099 The poster has seen it’s better days, so we will save the picture of dad and say goodbye to the rest. It was fun to see and brought back some great memories about our 4-H club.  I did love being a 4-H leader.

The Ward Variety Show and Keeping Gideon

January 22nd was the Variety show at church. I was asked to be the Emcee.
And I was able to sing a song to my sweetheart, Darryl....
"Till There Was You"
******
The children entertained us....
The ladies showed us their exercise routine...

The grandsons of the pioneers sang "Ghost Riders in the Sky".

Darryl sang with the barbershop group.....

They called themselves the Menan Melodaires, delivering volcanic harmonies to please the crowd.

And finally, since little Miss Parker has been sick and in the hospital, Master Gideon has been taking turns spending the night at his grandparents houses. Last night was our turn.
**********
He and grandpa put together his Mega big puzzle.
On one side it's a coloring puzzle....

And on the other side is the fire Engine.

He liked it so much he just he tried to hug it.
And that's pretty much all our excitement for the last week.
