Once Again - June 17 - July 14

Or put another way... Back on the Road.
Monday June 17, 2019
Once again we packed our vehicles, kissed Jesse and the kids goodbye and headed for the highway and another adventure.
Creston, Iowa

We spent 4 days in Creston, Iowa working on the grain Silos.

We helped resurface the top of the Silos.

June 21st found us in Granger, Indiana hunting for apartments for our next job. With apartments secured we did a little sight seeing.

1st stop, the National Studebaker Museum in South Bend, Indiana.
In their museum they have a collection of famous carriages.
Below is the Barouche used by the Marquis de Lafayette on his tour of America in 1924. It was purchased for the Studebaker collection in 1887.

Also in the collection are from left: President McKinely's Phaeton, President Benjamin Harrison's Brougham, and President Lincoln's Barouche.

Studebaker was quite renown for their wagons...

And then for their reliable automobiles and trucks.

Darryl and I found this 1922 Big Six Child's Hearse quite interesting for two reasons.

In the early 20th century the infant mortality rate was significantly higher than we have today, so some funeral homes used a special hearse to carry the children. They were painted white to represent the innocence of the child.

I met this woman as we were both standing reading about this hearse. She mentioned that it came from her home town in Brazil, Indiana. Since my family is from there we got to talking and I found out she is the sister of our dear friend and fellow thespian, T.J. Sneddon.

This particular Hearse was owned by the Miller Funeral Home in Brazil, Indiana.

Darryl is such a car buff, he told me so many interesting facts about each model of car.

We finally found it! A Golden Hawk like the one he used to own before he left on his mission.

We have a nice apartment in Granger, Indiana, next to Mishawaka and South Bend with stores and amenities close by. After a couple of weeks Darryl bought me a brand new bicycle! It's an Electra brand bicycle rides like a dream! A cruiser with 7 speeds it was a wonderful early Anniversary gift.

We took several road trips to visit Shipshawana and Middlebury where Darryl's Grandmother Yoder grew up and where he spent several summer vacations as a boy. I love the countryside around here. It just feels like home!
🎆🎇🎆🎇
Speaking of feeling like home. On Thursday, July 4th we left early and drove the 3+ hours down to Center Point, Indiana and spent the Holiday with Michelle and Kevin and their Family.

Lots of fun, good food and children to keep us entertained.

In the evening Clay, Matt and Ben set off fireworks for us to enjoy.

I think Clay's favorite was the floating Lanterns.

On Friday the 5th Darryl and I went up to visit Uncle Ronald at his farm, then over to Patty and Chuck's to spend some time with them.

They had a snapping turtle in their koi pond and Patty was trying to find it.

It was an enjoyable holiday and came back to our little apartment home on Saturday.

On Saturday July 13th we went Blueberry Picking at the Blueberry Ranch between Granger and Elkhart. We picked over 6 pounds of berries in about 20 minutes, and they were delicious. I made a blueberry cobbler and we had fresh berries with every meal.

Happy 43rd Anniversary to us!
